Wilbraham Police officer shot at Old Carriage Drive home; suspect barricaded, police say


A police officer was shot while responding to a home in Wilbraham on Saturday night, Massachusetts State Police confirmed.

The officer was responding to a residence at 11 Old Carriage Dr. some time before 10 p.m. on Jan. 20, State Police said.

A suspect was believed to be barricaded inside a home on the cul-de-sac as of 10:15 p.m., State Police said.

Social media posts on Facebook and Twitter started to discuss the incident around 8:45 p.m.

State Police said troopers were at the scene and the unidentified Wilbraham officer who was shot has been brought to a nearby hospital; there was no word on the severity of his or her injuries, police said.

The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Jim Leydon confirmed an officer had been injured while on-duty Saturday night.

State Police troopers are at the scene with a K-9 team, crisis negotiators and a Special Tactical Operations (STOP) Team, State Police said. State Police Bomb Squad operations were also at the ready, if needed, police said.

The Wilbraham Police Department declined to comment.
