KUALA LUMPUR (XINHUA) – The number of unemployed persons in Malaysia continued to fall to 567,800 persons in December 2023 from 569,200 persons in the previous month, with an unemployment rate of 3.3 per cent, official data showed on Friday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that positive employment trends observed in the final month of 2023 were indicative of the nation’s economic foundations, driven by a continuing growth in economic and social activities.

According to the DOSM, the number of labour force remained increasing in December 2023, with an addition of 0.1 per cent month-on-month to 17.03 million persons, recording a higher labour force participation rate of 70.2 per cent.

The number of employed persons also continued on a positive trend, with a month-on-month increase of 0.2 per cent to 16.46 million persons.
